Natural stone restoration services in Paradise Valley, AZ is one of the many services that Prestige Floor and Carpet Care is performs.
Marble, travertine and limestone restoration will be needed on every floor at some time. The natural stone needs to be cleaned properly and maintained after restoration to save large expenses.
When a marble floor is first installed, the tile installer does his best to lay the marble or travertine tile as flat as possible.
Every tile contractor I’ve spoken too tells me he, or his workers lay tile completely flat, with no noticeable lippage (the lip that’s left because of uneven tiles adjacent to each other).
Every marble, travertine or limestone tile floor has some degree of lippage to it and needs to be ground flat to remove the unwanted lips.
Not to say every tile installer lays uneven tiles, to their credit, a lot of the time it’s due to settling of the foundation or other movement beyond their control. There are also standards they follow and if it’s within the industry’s standards, it’s considered flat.
Leveling a natural stone floor is a quite in depth process, which requires grinding the floor flat with very course grained metal diamond pads. This process, as you can imagine is very time consuming, which equals very costly.
If a stone floor has dulled or has been scratched over time, and is in need of some stone restoration, we can hone and polish the floor without flattening the floor.
Any acidic liquid that touches a calcium based tile like marble, travertine or limestone, in Paradise Valley, AZ will etch the stone by reacting with the calcium. This etch can only be removed by honing and polishing.
Honing and polishing a marble, travertine or limestone floor can restore the polished finish, but it will not remove the lips or uneven tiles.
Polishing Marble Floors
Honing is the process of removing light scratches from the natural stone floor with the use of diamond abrasives.
The difference between grinding and honing is the diamonds used in honing are encrusted in resins rather than metals used in grinding.
The honing process will continue, progressively using finer diamond honing pads until the desired finish is attained (sometimes up to 5 or 6 diamond grits depending on a flat or honed finish or a high polished finish).
For lower maintenance a honed finish is recommended, where the marble, travertine or limestone tile in Paradise Valley, AZ has no reflective properties but either enhancement sealer or non-enhancement sealer is highly recommended due to the natural stone being porous.
If a polished finish is desired, the honing process continues with the use of fine grit diamond pads and is finished with polishing powders to really pop the shine of the natural stone tile.
The reflective properties or depth of clarity are what we look for in a polished finish in Paradise Valley, AZ.
